David E. Koon Jr., MD, is an orthopedic surgeon with Palmetto Health-USC Orthopedic Center and a clinical associate professor of orthopedic surgery at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.

Dr. Koon completed his undergraduate studies at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina, and received his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia. He completed his internship and orthopedic residency at Dwight David Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Georgia. Following his residency, he served with distinction in the U.S. Army, with tours at Fort Gordon, Fort Rucker in Alabama, and in Vicenza, Italy.

Dr. Koon is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Association, and a member of the South Carolina Orthopaedic Association. He and his wife Terri are originally from the Columbia area and have three children.

“As a general orthopedic surgeon, I enjoy treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal complaints. I enjoy teaching our orthopedic residents and have a focused interest in overseas missions, including involvement with an international educational exchange program in Haiti.”
