What is a neurologist?
A neurologist is a medical doctor with specialized training in diagnosing, treating, and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system. Neurologists do not perform surgery.
A neurologist's training includes an undergraduate degree, four years of medical school, a one-year internship, and at least three years of specialized training. Many neurologists also have additional training in other areas—or subspecialties—of neurology such as stroke, epilepsy, neuromuscular disease, and movement disorders.
What is a neurosurgeon?
A neurosurgeon does more than brain surgery. They treat all of the nervous system, which includes spinal care and peripheral nerves throughout the body. They help patients with head and spine trauma, cerebrovascular disorders, such as aneurysms of the brain and clogged arteries in the neck that can lead to stroke, chronic low back pain, birth defects, brain and spinal tumors and abnormalities of the peripheral (face, arms, legs, hands and feet) nerves.
Our physicians are fellowship-trained experts in functional neurosurgery, endovascular and cerebral vascular neurosurgery, epilepsy, skull-base surgery, pediatric neurosurgery, spine surgery, neuro oncology, stereotactic radiosurgery and neuro critical care.
