Experience
Our Huntington’s disease (HD) clinic was founded in 1985. One of the first of its kind in the southeastern United States, the clinic has been providing multidisciplinary onsite services to HD patients and their families in South Carolina for three decades. The clinic joined the Department of Neurology at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2010.
Multidisciplinary services
We provide multidisciplinary services that include onsite neurological care, genetic counseling, neuropsychological consultations, physical, speech and occupational therapies and social work services. Additionally, on the campus of our medical center, we provide psychiatric consultations. Our clinic provides genetic counseling and HD gene testing for individuals at risk, as well as genetic counseling and family planning for affected families.
Education
As a part of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, we are committed to the education of young medical professionals. At our HD clinic, we teach medical, genetic counseling and social work students, as well as neurology and psychiatry residents and fellows. Our clinic has contributed to both MS and PhD doctoral theses for students at the University of South Carolina and out of state.
