About the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit

NSICUs have been associated with lower mortality and shorter hospital stays for disorders like stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, and traumatic brain injury. At Palmetto Health Richland, our Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) provides round-the-clock care of patients with immediately life-threatening neurological and neurosurgical illnesses.

A team approach

Our multidisciplinary team includes neurologists, neurosurgeons and neurointensivists that work closely with nurses, staff, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech language pathologists. The nurses and staff are trained to use specialized equipment and techniques that help them recognize subtle changes and deteriorations in their patients.

Together, our team provides a wide range of expertise to each patient, ensuring better care and better treatment outcomes.
