Education and growth through residency training

Orthopedic surgery

Prisma Health and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine now offer three fully accredited five-year orthopedic surgery residency positions in collaboration with the Palmetto Health-USC Orthopedic Center in Columbia, South Carolina. Orthopedic rotations are supervised by 22 full-time faculty in each of eight major subspecialties: orthopedic trauma; pediatric orthopedics; upper extremity; sports medicine; spine; adult reconstruction; foot and ankle; and general orthopedics.

Our residency program is committed to fulfilling the mission of the department – to develop lifelong learners and contributors to the orthopedic community.

Athletic training

At Palmetto Health-USC Orthopedic Center, our residency program for certified athletic trainers is designed to help athletic trainers expand their knowledge and diagnosis skills in musculoskeletal evaluation. We are one of six programs in the country accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

Our programs are designed for residents ready to further their skills in all aspects of sports medicine and to prepare them to serve in a variety of clinical, surgical, research and educational settings.
