About our team

Palmetto Health-USC Orthopedic Center sports medicine includes physicians, physician assistants, physical and occupational therapists, athletic trainers, sports performance and biomechanics specialists and registered dietitian nutritionists dedicated to delivering high quality care to active patients.

Our physician team includes six orthopedic sports medicine surgeons and one primary care sports medicine physician, all of whom are board-certified and fellowship-trained. As a group, our clinical interests and expertise spans a wide variety of pathologies. Minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery is the cornerstone of sports medicine surgery, and all of our surgeons have expertise in arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder, hip, elbow and ankle. We also perform ligament reconstruction and cartilage repair.

Our services

Our sports medicine team serves as the official team physicians for the University of South Carolina Athletics, the Columbia Fireflies and dozens of other professional, university/college, high schools, middle schools and recreational teams throughout South Carolina. In addition, we supervise one of the largest athletic trainer outreach programs in South Carolina. Our physicians and a team of athletic trainers serve 34 high schools and seven colleges on the sidelines to prevent, diagnose and treat injuries.

Athletic Training Residency Program

Palmetto Health-USC Orthopedic Center's residency program for certified athletic trainers is designed to help trainers expand their knowledge and diagnosis skills in musculoskeletal evaluation. We aim to further awareness in all aspects of sports medicine in a variety settings and are one of six programs in the country accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
