Harold I. Friedman, MD, is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon with Palmetto Health-USC Medical Group. He has been a faculty member of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine since 1984, when he founded the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He has served as division chief ever since, and was named professor of surgery in 1990.
A graduate of Hobart College in Geneva, New York, Friedman earned a PhD in anatomy and his doctor of medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center in Tucson, and a fellowship in plastic surgery at the University of Virginia Health Sciences Center, also in Charlottesville.
Dr. Friedman is involved in research on implantable materials and soft tissue interactions and has published extensively in plastic surgery literature. He has served as president of the South Carolina Plastic Surgery Society, is a board member with the Southeastern Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the Columbia Medical Society. He also serves as an associate editor for the Annals of Plastic Surgery.
