Matthew Orr, PhD, is a behavioral counseling therapist with Palmetto Health-USC Family and Preventive Medicine. He joined the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2008 from Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Georgia, where he served as an assistant professor and director of the marriage and family therapy programs. Previously, he held a faculty position at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Dr. Orr has served as a marriage and family therapist and mental health counselor with various agencies, including the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. After receiving a bachelor of science in family and child sciences from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Dr. Orr earned a master of science in marriage and family therapy from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. He then obtained a doctorate in marriage and family therapy from Kansas State University in Manhattan.
Dr. Orr is a licensed marriage and family therapist with special interests in ADHD, parent-child relationships, anxiety, stress reduction and the relaxation response, mindfulness, sport psychology and performance enhancement and brief solution-focused counseling in primary care. He is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).
